Guide for Spectators of the Handball European Championship at the St. Jakobshalle

1. Getting to the St. Jakobshalle

Venue:

    We recommend using public transport for your journey.
By public transport
  • By train: Basel SBB (Switzerland) or Badischer Bahnhof (Germany)
  • From Basel SBB: Tram lines 8, 10 or 11 to «Aeschenplatz» (1 stop), then tram line 14 to «St. Jakob» (approx. 20 minutes)
  • From Badischer Bahnhof: Bus line 36 (stop in front of McDonald’s) directly to «St. Jakob» (approx. 15 minutes)
  • Tram and bus stop: The stop «St. Jakob» (tram line 14 and bus line 36) is right in front of the St. Jakobshalle.

Note: Travels in the zone of Tarifverbund Nordwestschweiz (TNW) is included in the ticket price.

Travelling by car
  • Motorway: Take exit 6 «Muttenz-Nord / Verzweigung Hagnau» if coming from Zurich/Bern and Germany. Then follow the signs for «St. Jakob».
  • Car parks: There are paying car parks in the St. Jakob car park and in the St. Jakob Shopping Centre.
Travelling by coach
  • The number of coach parking spaces around the St. Jakobshalle is limited. The following applies to these spaces: ‘first come, first served’.
  • To obtain a coach park ticket, please send an e-mail with the following details: Match day, approximate arrival time and length of the car.
Travelling by plane

The St. Jakobshalle is easily accessible from the airport with the free bus line no. 50 to Basel SBB and then via the above-mentioned connections.

2. On-site information

Entrance

The main entrance is on St. Jakobs-Strasse, opposite the football stadium.

Doors opening

The doors open 90 minutes before the first game of the day.

Tickets

Tickets do not need to be printed out. They are also valid on mobile devices.

Catering

There are various food stands with a wide selection of food in the hall. Payment is possible in cash, by Twint or with the usual cards.

Note: The catering is not run by the Swiss Handball Association – the association has no influence on the range and prices.

Accessibility

The St. Jakobshalle is partially barrier-free. There are six parking spaces for disabled persons near the main entrance. Wheelchair toilets are available in the foyer (Eurokey).

Box office

Opening hours box office: Daily 90 minutes before the start of the first game until the half-time of the second game.

Note: Tickets are only valid for a single admission. Re-entry is not possible after leaving the St. Jakobshalle.

Cloakroom

A cloakroom service is available at St. Jakobshalle. The hall operator’s fee is CHF 3.-

Fanzone

A varied fan zone with a games area and interactive experiences awaits handball fans of all ages in the St. Jakobshalle.

«House of Fans»

The «House of Fans», the official fan meeting place of the EURO 2024, opens 3 hours before the start of the first daily game:

All matches of the groups C and D will be shown live in the «House of Fans». After the games, the «House of Fans» invites you to the after-party. Admission is free.

50th anniversary party

On Friday evening, 29 November, from around 10:30 p.m., the Lehenmatthalle will host the SHV’s 50th anniversary party. Registration is required for this event (admission from 18 years of age).

4. Important information: Football match FC Basel

On Saturday, 30 November, FC Basel has a home game against FC Lausanne-Sport at 6 p.m. This will lead to increased traffic and limited parking.

We strongly recommend using public transport.
