Bungee jump, cannonball, flying fox – EURO mascot CATCHY on an action tour

10/14/2024

In 45 days, on 28 November 2024, the first Women’s European Handball Championship with 24 nations and the first on Austrian soil will be ceremoniously opened in Innsbruck. In Tyrol, the mascot of the Women’s EHF EURO 2024, CATCHY, went on an adrenaline hunt.

From Austria’s highest pedestrian bridge, the 94 metre high Benni-Raich-Bridge, CATCHY plunged into the depths with the EURO ball. Pure adrenalin and the best preparation for what awaits the mascot, players and fans in 45 days’ time.

The Women’s EHF EURO 2024 is already making history today. As with the men’s event in 2020, Austria will host the first Women’s European Handball Championship with 24 nations in 2024, together with its co-hosts Hungary and Switzerland. And the programme for the red-and-white main host, which will host two preliminary round groups in Innsbruck, one main round group and the final weekend in Vienna, has it all:

Defending champions and Olympic champions Norway, 2019 world champions Netherlands, EURO 7 of 2022 Germany, Olympic participants Slovenia, handball-crazy Iceland, Ukraine, Slovakia and, of course, Austria itself will bring absolute world-class handball to Tyrol’s capital.

From the Christmas market in the old town to the world stars of handball, from the ski slopes to the handball arena – Innsbruck offers all of this in its diversity as part of the Women’s EHF EURO 2024. The Olympiaworld Innsbruck, which is already EURO-tested from the Men’s EHF EURO 2010 and will once again be transformed into a colourful sea of flags, can hold around 7,000 spectators.

Josefine Hanfland, one of the top performers of the Austrian national team, comes from the ‘Holy Land’ and will also represent our colours at the Women’s EHF EURO 2024. At just 28 years of age, she is already one of the team’s veterans. She is looking forward to the home EURO with great anticipation: ‘For me personally, this is the biggest career highlight ever. This is where it all began for me in handball. The city of Innsbruck makes an incredible effort. It is a matter close to my heart and we are all very grateful that this home EURO has been made possible. This is a childhood dream, also for every other player. You saw with the men in 2010 and 2020 what a home EURO like this can achieve, and we want to do the same.’

She has high hopes for her fellow Tyroleans in order to realise her major goal of reaching the main round: ‘I hope that my fellow Tyroleans won’t let me down.’

OPUS world hit ‘Live Is Life’ official EURO song

The song ‘Live Is Life’, composed by guitarist Ewald Pfleger, was recorded 40 years ago, on 2 September 1984. Just a few weeks later, on 11 November 1984, the song was released. The rest, as they say, is history.

Another chapter is now being added to this history for the 40th anniversary: The song was produced for the EURO in a specially adapted version. In addition, the OPUS band has been expanded to include the ‘Schick Sisters’: the three sisters Katharina, Christine and Veronika add their unmistakable voices to the band for the EURO song. This combination makes the global hit the perfect song for the Women’s EURO 2024!

The EURO mascot, CATCHY, will also be causing a stir and, above all, creating a great atmosphere!

The wild cat proved that she is not afraid of anything at Area47 in Ötztal: bungee jumping, cannonball, flying fox and much more got the adrenaline pumping and the anticipation skyrocketing.

CATCHY is ready and equipped for the highlight of the year, and fans need to secure the best seats in the arenas quickly.
